Biosketch

Dr. Rui Rodrigues is a molecular and behavioral neuroscientist investigating how the endocannabinoid system shapes brain plasticity and adaptive behavior. He obtained his PhD at the UTitle niversity of Lisbon, Portugal, where he discovered how cannabinoids and neurotrophic factors regulate adult neural stem cell dynamics, revealing mechanisms through which cannabinoids and physical exercise fine-tune adult neurogenesis in physiological and pathological conditions. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bordeaux, France, exploring how the endocannabinoid system regulates adaptive behaviors through integrated molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches. His work has led to several publications, including eight as first author and two as corresponding author, reflecting both his productivity and his growing scientific independence. His research excellence has been recognized through competitive awards such as the Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship, FENS/Dana Foundation grants, and multiple other prizes. He regularly serves as a peer reviewer for international scientific journals. Beyond his research contributions, Dr. Rodrigues has demonstrated a sustained commitment to mentorship, teaching, and science communication, having supervised many undergraduate and master’s students and organized scientific symposia. He is also the founder of Fala-me Neuro, a non-profit organization that promotes neuroscience literacy among Portuguese-speaking communities. In conclusion, Dr. Rodrigues has demonstrated a great level of work capacity, leadership and high-impact collaborative research as well as mentorship and science education skills, which reflect his goal to advance understanding of the brain while making (neuro)science more accessible to society.
